School in the Kitchen!
š½Part of our āschoolingā takes place in the kitchen. š©āš³šØāš³This, Iāll be honest, is a hard one for me. They are so eager to āhelpā me with mealsā¦but moms, we all know that when littles āhelpā it usually means more mess, spills & mistakes. I fight this inner battle of, āhere, just let me do it.ā Then, I have to stop and remind myself: how will they learn? Donāt we learn through trying & making mistakes? Can messes be cleaned up? I found that teaching them my grandmothers meatloaf recipe was one of the easiest ones to teach. We used math to measure, they experienced sensory play, we talked about where our meat came from (our friends cow!), and I even shared a little about my Nanny Capuano (her recipes) who died when I was 3. (Nigelās age.) And wow! They were much more excited for dinner when I allowed them to be part of the process. šÆ These moments tend to be my greatest teacher. How am I reflecting the love, patience, gentleness that Christ has shown to me?! Through my many messes, WAY messier than meatloaf, Jesus walked alongside me and loved me through it all. So, yes, cleanup took longer & Nigel put about 3x the amount of spicesā¦and there may have been a whole river of ketchup. But, we are sowing those seeds of Godās love that have been passed down through the generations in our familyā¦one meatloaf at a time! šš„°š š±
